Many of you may have decided to buy a second-hand shipping container and use it as a pop-up restaurant, ticketing counter or an information booth at the next exhibition. When you buy a 20ft shipping container from a shipping container leasing vendor, there are chances it will need some cleaning and repair before you can use it again.

Here are a few steps that you need to follow while cleaning a shipping container:
Ensure that dust and grime are completely removed from the container. You can use a strong broom to begin with the cleaning and get rid of all accumulated dust, stubborn grime and oil residues easily.
Use a pressure washer to spray in all the corners of the 20ft shipping container. Remember to begin with the cleaning process starting from the back and then gradually working your way to the front. It is important to pay special attention to each and every corner where stubborn grime like oil and grease can stay accumulated. Once you are done with this step, leave the container to air dry and check the spaces and dents once again to see the final result.
After you are done with the above step, you now have to inspect the container both outside and inside and check if there is any sign of rust and corrosion. Use a quality rust remover to get away with the tarnished effect. You can use a wired brush or an aluminium foil to scrape off the portions and make it super clean.
Once the cargo container is completely dry both inside and outside, simply use a medium grit sandpaper and address all spots and areas wherever there are signs of flaking or any wear and tear.
Right after the above step, go ahead and apply a coat of primer. This will make the container moisture-resistant, corrosion-free and durable in every way. Once the primer coat is thoroughly dried up, you can apply a thick exterior paint both inside and outside the container.
So, by now you must have got a brief idea on how to clean a cargo container on your own.
